Loreal East Africa, a subsidiary of Loreal International has encouraged students from the University of Nairobi, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences to apply for the various positions available at Loreal East Africa. They can start working as Graduate Trainees and get paid for it.
Speaking during the event, Arthur Ondago, Operations Director at Loreal East Africa revealed that the students don’t work for free, but they get paid for the services rendered to the 100 Year old company. He further divulged that they are the number one cosmetics company in the world, with over 85,000 employees, 517 patents and making over six billion euros in profits.
Mr. Ondago elaborated the need for students to be very agile and be ready to learn and fit in any role in the organization. “ I studied marketing and as at now, I am doing operations,” he said. He also urged students to be global thinkers and be ready to travel and interact with people from other continents.
He revealed the various brands under Loreal. They have beauty products, cosmetics, hair products, skin care products and luxury products like perfumes. They run the giant multination on ethics: “Integrity, respect, courage, transparent, these are our ethics, “ he said, reading from a slide presentation that he had prepared.
For them to reach many clients, Mr. Ondago clarified that they work with various distribution channels; mass market like supermarkets, pharmacies, ecommerce, local retailers and salons.
On marketing and winning the heart of clients, Mr. Ondago compared supply chain war to world wars. “ Supply chain is the art of war, that is where organizations fight. How fast can you move your troops around. You either capture or bomb bridges, airports or get captured. Germans had the best military, war planes, technology, army, they wanted to control the world. How did they loose the war? The allied forces disrupted their supply chains. They bombed bridges they couldn’t bring in more soldiers, bring in food, supply chain was weakened and Germany lost the war, “ he narrated the world war story and how it was fought.
On getting jobs and internships, students were told to earmark potential companies, and how they do recruitment and research more into their products and services.
