Department of Management Science Host Summer School Programme

Department of Management Science hosted a Summer School programme. The Summer School is the collaboration between Rwanda and Kenya that promote social enterprises and pursue social or ecological goals while striving for financial independence. Both Rwanda and Kenya are among Africa’s most dynamic economies and exhibit strong economical growth (Afdb, 2019) however both countries are subject to challenges that could overcome through social enterprises.

The summer school programme is supported by VW-foundation; the goal is to combine the transmission of academic knowledge about the topic of social entrepreneurship in developing countries with practical insight by traveling to Kigali, Rwanda and Nairobi, Kenya. At the same time, the projects strive to create a lively academic debate and intercultural exchange among our participants from seven different countries and three continents.

On her opening speech Associate Dean, School of Business, Prof. Mary Kinoti thanked the VW-foundation for supporting the initiative, she said “this is the practical programme that promote growth of human capital in the area of business” The Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Enos Njeru said that, “the idea of summer school as a World Class University is to support social enterprise, it’s a good opportunity for everyone because it promotes and support internationalism” He noted that the collaboration brings together Six Universities both local and international such as German, France, Singapore Universities among others. The Principal College of Architecture and Engineering Prof. Peter Ngau said that “the participants will cover a wide knowledge in business by interacting and connecting with academic researchers that bring together people from different experience, different context, and use the context to apply knowledge”
