COURSE DURATION: Two (2) years | Rolling intakes: January, May and September
PHILOSOPHY
The programme undertakes to provide advanced knowledge and skills necessary to equip the learners with the tools required to help them manage organizations efficiently and effectively.
RATIONALE
While Supply Chain Management is regarded as a critical function in any organization, there is generally a lack of sufficient expertise in the area, especially in the developing world. The situation is not any different in Kenya. Due to this, there is a dare need to train skilled manpower who are more specialized in the Supply Chain Management domain. The programme is designed to impart the necessary knowledge and specialized skills required to solve complex supply chain issues affecting both local and global business environments.
At the end of the programme, the learner should be able to:
- Apply knowledge of issues and approaches in key generic and specific areas of Supply Chain Management
- Evaluate critically Supply Chains in both local and global business environments.
- Design a supply chain strategy for an organization
- Apply professionalism and ethical behaviour for a business and be socially aware of Strategic issues and problems in Supply Chain Management.
- Apply knowledge and skills of emerging and contemporary issues in Supply Chain Management with an emphasis on Sustainable Supply Chain Management practices.
MODE OF DELIVERY
Face-Face Mode
Lectures and tutorials using notes, electronic presentations, instruction manuals, group discussions, practical laboratory demonstrations and fieldwork.
Open, Distance Learning, and e-Learning Mode
To be offered off-campus using a multi-media approach, including a variety of self-instructional print and video conferencing materials.
Blended Learning Mode
This is the use of combined face to face and open, distance learning and e-learning modes.

Structure
Part I: Taught Course
- In each semester, candidates will be required to take a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of six (6) examination papers inclusive of supplementary examinations.
- All candidates shall be required to take and pass a total of fifteen (15) examination papers before being allowed to proceed to do a Research Project.
- Each course shall be examined through a two-hour written examination paper at the end of each semester.
- The final written examination shall account for fifty percent (50%) of the marks in each course, while continuous assessment shall account for the remaining fifty percent (50%).
- The pass mark for each course shall be fifty percent (50%).
- Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in any course unit may on the recommendation of the School Board of Examiners and approval by Senate be allowed to take supplementary examinations.
- A pass obtained in the supplementary examinations shall be recorded as 50% in the candidate’s academic record.
- A candidate who fails to satisfy the examiners in supplementary examination shall be subject to the following on recommendation of the School Board of Examiners and approval by Senate:-
- Discontinued if the failed course is a core course, or
- Allowed to change to another specialization option if the failed course is a specialization course, or
- Allowed to take another elective if the failed course is an elective course.
Conditions (ii) and (iii) shall only apply provided the stipulated maximum period of 12 semesters is not exceeded; otherwise the candidate shall be deregistered.
Part II: Research Project
- Candidates shall be required to submit supervised research project for examination at least three weeks before end of semester in which it is to be examined.
- For purposes of examination regulations, the Research Project shall be considered to be equivalent to five (5) courses.
- The pass mark for the Research Project shall be fifty percent (50%)
- A candidate, who fails in the research project may on the recommendation of the School Board of Examiners and approval by Senate, be allowed to re-submit the project for examination, up to two times within the stipulated period of 12 semesters.
- A pass obtained in the re-submission of a research project shall be recorded as 50% in the candidate’s academic record.
- Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in the second re-submission of the research project or fails to complete their study within the stipulated period of 12 semesters shall on recommendation of the School Board of Examiners and approval by senate be discontinued.
Admission Requirements
Minimum Admission Requirements
The following or their equivalents shall be admissible:
- A holder of at least an Upper Second Class Honors degree or its equivalent in non-classified degrees.
- A holder of Lower Second Class Honors or its equivalent with at least two (2) years of relevant work experience.
- A holder of Lower Second Class Honors or its equivalent plus a post-graduate degree in a relevant area of study.
- A holder of a pass degree with at least five (5) years of relevant work experience.
- Any other qualification accepted by the Senate as equivalent to any of the above.
Credits Transfer and Exemptions
- Applicants who have completed equivalent Masters course units at other Senate recognized universities may, with the approval of the Senate, be allowed to transfer credits up to one third (four) course units into their program.
- Students desiring to receive credit for any prior course units done will need to make a formal request, which includes:
- A list of the University of Nairobi (UON) course units for which the student is interested in getting credit;
- Official transcripts, indicating courses that may be equivalent and;
- Description and syllabus/outlines for the courses previously taken and passed. In addition, there may be an exemption examination.
- All those seeking to transfer credits will be required to pay an appropriate fee as per the university credit transfer policy.
